Wool needs cooler water, a pH-balanced solution and slower drying so it does not shrink or felt; it takes longer and uses different products, which is the $15 to $30 a room difference. Synthetic carpet in the same house is priced at the standard rate.
A “room” is up to about 200 square feet. The living room in a Port Washington colonial or a great room in Old Westbury is often two rooms’ worth of carpet, and a center-hall staircase is priced as its own item because every step is hand-worked. We measure and tell you the count before we start, so there is no surprise on the invoice.
Homes on Manhasset Bay, Hempstead Harbor and Oyster Bay hold more moisture in the carpet, so odor and dust mites are more common and we spend more time on extraction and drying. It is usually the reason a Great Neck or Glen Cove waterfront job needs the pet-odor or antimicrobial add-on where an inland home would not.
Port Washington: a mix of apartments near the station and colonials in Baxter Estates and Manorhaven; most jobs land between $160 and $320, waterfront homes toward the top. Great Neck: a lot of co-ops and condos at $95 to $160, houses in Kings Point and Great Neck Estates $250 and up. Roslyn and East Hills: $200 to $380. Garden City: large older homes, often $250 to $450 with multiple staircases. Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Locust Valley and Oyster Bay: $180 to $500 depending on size, with harbor humidity add-ons more common. Across the county line, Huntington and Dix Hills price the same way.
