A dog or cat accident on a rug soaks through the pile into the foundation and the pad, so the smell comes back every humid day. We find every spot under UV light, treat the urine where it actually is, wash the whole rug, then deodorize, sanitize and dry it flat. Free pickup and delivery across Nassau and Suffolk.
Spilled coffee sits on top of a rug. Urine does not. It runs down through the pile, spreads out in the cotton foundation into a patch much bigger than the spot you see, and keeps going into the pad and sometimes into the wood floor underneath.
When it dries, the water leaves but the urine salts stay. Those salts pull moisture out of the air, so on the first humid day of a Long Island summer, or when the heat comes on and someone mops the kitchen, the smell is back. That is why a rug can smell fine in the store-bought-spray week and terrible a month later.
Cleaning the top of the rug, even with a good machine, mostly pushes the urine around. To get rid of the smell you have to reach the foundation, break the urine down and rinse it out of the whole rug.

Done at our Long Island plant, step by step, with a written price before anything starts.
We check the rug front and back under UV light, mark every accident, and smell-test the pad. Old spots you never saw show up here.
Each color is tested so nothing runs, then the rug is dusted to shake out the dry grit and pet hair before any water touches it.
The marked areas, or the whole rug when the accidents are everywhere, soak in a urine treatment that breaks the urine down inside the foundation.
The whole rug is washed submerged, so the treatment and the broken-down urine come out of every part of it, not just the spot.
We rinse until the water runs clean. Residue left in a rug attracts dirt and can bring the smell back, so this step is never rushed.
A deodorizing and sanitizing rinse finishes the job. It removes the odor; it does not cover it with perfume.
The rug dries flat in a controlled room, front and back at the same speed, so it does not shrink, ripple or come back musty.
We check it again under the UV light, groom the pile, clean the fringe by hand, and bring it home free.
Deodorizing and sanitizing are the last step of the wash, not a spray on top of a dirty rug. Once the urine has been broken down and rinsed out, there is nothing left to smell, and the deodorizing rinse takes care of the rest of the room smell the rug carried, like smoke, cooking and a damp basement.
We use our own green cleaning products and rinse them out completely, so the rug is safe for the dog that caused the problem, for cats, and for kids who sit on the floor. No heavy fragrance is left behind; a clean rug should smell like nothing.
If you want extra help keeping it that way, ask for rug protection after the wash. It does not make a rug pet-proof, but it gives you more time to blot an accident before it soaks in.

Most pet rugs come back clean and smell-free. Some urine damage is permanent, and you should know that before you pay for anything. We look at the rug first and tell you straight.
The pad under a rug soaks up urine like a sponge, and it is almost always worse than the rug. A clean rug put back on the same pad smells again in a week. When we pick up a pet rug we check the pad and, if it has soaked up urine, we tell you to throw it away. We can cut a new rug pad to size and deliver it with the rug.
While the rug is out of the house it is a good time to clean the floor under it. Wood floors that got wet need to dry out; carpet under a rug can be cleaned the same week with our pet stain and odor removal for carpet.
For one fresh accident on a synthetic rug, an on-site clean with an enzyme treatment and steam cleaning often does the job, and we can do it during a carpet or sofa visit. The rug is dry in a few hours.
For wool and hand-knotted rugs, for old accidents, for many accidents, or for any rug that still smells after a home cleaning, the urine is in the foundation and it needs a full wash at our plant. Wool should not be soaked with hot water in your living room, and a rug that is wet all the way through for a day on your floor can damage the floor and grow mildew. At the plant it is washed and dried flat in about a week to ten days.
Press paper towels on the spot and stand on them. Rubbing spreads the urine and frays the wool. Keep blotting with fresh towels until nothing comes up.
Dab a little cool water and blot again. Never use hot water, a steamer or an iron: heat sets urine stains and can shrink wool.
Bleach, ammonia and some store sprays can change the color of the dye for good. Ammonia smells like urine to a pet and invites a repeat.
Fold the rug back and let air reach the underside and the floor so they do not stay wet. Check the pad.
Fresh urine is much easier to take out than urine that has sat for months. If it still smells after it dries, it needs a wash.
A pet that keeps going on the same rug is usually smelling an old spot. Once the rug is truly clean, many stop.

Yes, in most cases. Wool takes urine treatment and washing well. We find every spot under UV light, soak the urine areas in a urine treatment, wash the whole rug submerged and dry it flat. Old accidents that have changed the color of the dye may leave a mark even when the smell is gone, and we tell you that before we start.
Not when the urine has been taken out of the foundation and rinsed out of the whole rug. The smell comes back when only the top was cleaned, when the old pad goes back under the rug, or when the pet has a new accident. We check the pad and tell you if it needs replacing.
For one fresh accident on a synthetic rug, an on-site enzyme treatment and steam cleaning often works. For wool, hand-knotted rugs, old accidents or many spots, the urine is deep in the foundation and needs a full immersion wash at our plant, which cannot be done safely on your floor.
Yes. After the urine treatment and the wash, the rug gets a deodorizing and sanitizing rinse. We remove the odor rather than covering it with perfume, and we rinse everything out so the rug is safe for pets and children.
