Wet carpet has a clock on it. We extract the water, dry the carpet and pad, sanitize, and steam clean so the room comes back without the smell. Same-day across Nassau and Suffolk, written price before we start.
Carpet that got wet from clean water, a burst supply line, a washing machine hose, an overflowing tub, a leaking water heater, can almost always be saved if it is extracted and dried within a day or two. After that, the pad under the carpet holds water like a sponge, bacteria and mildew start in the pad and the backing, and the smell that follows is the reason people end up tearing carpet out. Our guide on mold in carpet after a flood explains what happens underneath and when carpet can and cannot be kept.
That is why this is a same-day service. The sooner the water comes out and air moves through the carpet and the pad, the better the result and the lower the cost. If your carpet is wet right now, call before you read the rest of this page.
Long Island basements are where most of this work happens: finished basements with carpet on the slab, in Baldwin, Freeport, Massapequa, Lindenhurst and every other South Shore town, that take water in a heavy rain or a storm surge, plus the burst-pipe and appliance jobs that happen in any house in any town.
The truck-mounted unit pulls standing water out of the carpet and, where it can be reached, out of the pad. This is the step that cannot wait. Furniture is lifted or moved and protected.
We lift a corner and look. A pad that is soaked through from clean water can sometimes be dried in place; a pad that has been wet for days, or wet with dirty water, is removed and replaced. The carpet itself is usually fine either way. We tell you which before doing it.
Air movers and, when needed, dehumidifiers run until the carpet, pad and slab or subfloor are dry, not just the surface. Drying is checked with a moisture meter, not by touch.
Once dry, the carpet gets an antimicrobial treatment and a full hot-water extraction steam cleaning with our organic pre-spray, so the room comes back clean and without the musty smell. The carpet is re-stretched if it loosened.
Clean water, from supply lines, appliances, tubs and rain coming in through a window well, is the bulk of the work and the carpet is almost always saved. Gray water, from a washing machine drain, a dishwasher or a sump pump backup, is handled with the pad replaced and the carpet sanitized. Black water, meaning sewage backup or flood water that came through the street, is a health matter: carpet and pad that have been in sewage are removed, not cleaned, and we will tell you that plainly rather than clean something that should be thrown away. For the rest of the house after a serious flood you need a restoration contractor and your insurance company; we handle the carpet, rugs and upholstery.
Area rugs that got wet are a different job. They are picked up and dried flat under tension at our plant so they do not dry crooked, then washed. See rug pickup and plant wash and rug blocking. Wet sofas and chairs are extracted and dried on site: upholstery cleaning.
Most of our water damage calls are finished basements, and basement carpet behaves differently from carpet upstairs. It sits on a concrete slab that stays cool and holds moisture, so a wet pad on a slab dries slowly on its own and the slab itself has to be dried, not just the carpet. Many basements have glued-down carpet or carpet tiles with no pad, which dry faster but trap water under the glue. And basement water is often not clean: it comes through the wall or up through a floor drain, which changes what can be saved.
On a slab we extract, lift the carpet along one wall to get air under it, and run air movers under and over the carpet with a dehumidifier in the room until the slab reads dry. On glued carpet we extract and dry from the top with longer air-mover time. In both cases we check the bottom of the drywall and the baseboards and tell you if they are wet, because that is the part a carpet cleaner cannot fix and a restoration contractor must.
Water damage work is priced on site by the area, how wet it is, and whether the pad is dried or replaced; the technician writes the price before starting. For jobs that will be an insurance claim we give an itemized invoice and photos of the carpet, pad and moisture readings before and after. The steam cleaning at the end is our standard steam carpet cleaning, from $25 per room with a three-room minimum, and you save $20 when you book online.
If the water was clean and we got there fast, the bill is extraction, drying and cleaning. If the pad has to be replaced, that is added. We do not sell demolition, rebuilding or mold remediation, and we will say so if that is what the room needs.

Usually, if it was clean water and it is extracted and dried within about 48 hours. The pad is the part that may need replacing. Carpet that was in sewage or street flood water is removed, not cleaned.

Only when it needs it. A clean-water soak caught early can often be dried in place. A pad that has been wet for days or wet with dirty water is removed and replaced, and we show you why.
One to three days with air movers and dehumidifiers, checked with a moisture meter. The steam cleaning is done once everything is dry.
If the water is extracted, the pad is dried or replaced, and the carpet is sanitized and steam cleaned, yes. The musty smell comes from a pad and backing that stayed wet; removing that cause removes the smell.
We provide an itemized invoice, photos and moisture readings before and after for your claim. We do not bill the insurer directly.
Wet rugs are picked up and dried flat under tension at our plant, then washed, so they do not dry crooked or smell. That is on the rug pickup and rug blocking pages.
